The gist of today is that we decided to go the cheap route and not take a bus and then a ferry to a beach and followed Sangida’s advice (she’s a student working at Arundel House) and went to Coogee Beach which happens to only be a 45 minute bus ride away; such a simpler route, especially with no ferry which costs $12. Why anyone would pay those kinds of prices is beyond me! It was a nice ride through parts of town we hadn’t quite explored too much and luckily the beach was the last stop on the line so we didn’t even need to heed where we were. When we got to the beach it just spread out in front of us while we were on the bus – the excitement was rising!
Getting off the bus, we found a nice spot but were a little confused because there were no red and yellow flags (the ones you swim between for safety purposes). We found out later that they kept closing the beach because the waves were so high. And yes, they were HIGH. Anna and I were standing in mid-calf and had to really stand our ground or we would have been swept in. I did get my feet taken out from under me a few times. The beach opened during that time and we headed over to the tide pool. Tide pools, my new favorite thing! You can chill in the ocean water without crazy waves coming at you and sand getting in your bottoms – win, win. There are large cement barricades that let in the big waves (which are fun) and provide a safer area for children to swim in as well. At one point though, they set off the shark alarm to get people’s attention because the waves were so dangerous and they couldn’t risk letting people in the water. That was exciting, for sure.
We were all so pooped from the beach we didn’t do anything that night; in fact, I probably blogged or napped. It seems that is what I due in my free time these days.
